Reliance Jio 5G service to launch in the second half of 2021

The much-awaited Reliance Jio 5G service will launch in the second half of next year. The announcement made by the Reliance Industries chairman, Mukesh Ambani at the India Mobile Congress 2020.

“I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G revolution in India in the second half of 2021. It will be powered by the indigenous-developed network, hardware, and technology components,” Ambani said.

Reliance chairman believes that country is among the best digitally connected nations in the world. And in order to maintain a lead in the 5G network, the country requires policy developments to early implementation of the 5G network. He further requested the government to work on policy steps that are required to bring affordable smartphones for the underprivileged people who are still on a 2G network. This will allow those people to take the benefits of a country’s digital initiative.

On one side, Reliance is working on launching the Jio 5G network by mid-half of next year. On the other side rivals, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea said, they will require at least 2 years to develop infrastructure for the 5G network.

Jio is working with Samsung and Qualcomm for the 5G network in India. Jio will start testing the network as soon as the 5G spectrum will be available. The 5G network will be much faster than the existing 4G network. It will allow faster data transfer and enhanced digital experience among IoT devices.

Jio’s other projects

In addition, Jio is also working with Google to launch a cheap variant of 4G smartphones. The company is planning to launch the phone for under Rs 4,000 somewhere mid next year.
