The central government has introduced a new app called Co-WIN. The app will be used to monitor the entire vaccine program in India. It is an upgraded version of the Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN).
At the press meet on Tuesday, Union Health Ministry Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan, said, “Co-WIN digital platform includes a free downloadable mobile application which can help record vaccine data.”
Co-WIN app modules
People need to register themselves on the Co-WIN app before the vaccination. It will help government officials for real-time monitoring of COVID-19 vaccine delivery. The app has five different modules–administrator module, registration module, vaccination module, beneficiary acknowledgment module, and report module.
Administrator module: The module will be used by the admin who will conduct vaccination sessions. The admin can create vaccination sessions via the app. Once they create the sessions, their vaccinators and supervisors will be notified. Each session will be about 30 minutes and be limited to 100 people.
Registration module: The module will be accessible to the people who want to get vaccinated. The people will need to register themselves before the vaccination.
Vaccination Module: This will help to verify beneficiary details and update vaccination status.
Acknowledgment module: This will send SMS to beneficiaries to detail about the vaccination centers, dates, and timings of the vaccination. Once beneficiaries will get vaccinated, it will generate QR-based certificates.
Report Module: This section will help to record how many vaccine sessions conducted and how many people attended those sessions.
Vaccination phases
The government will distribute the vaccine in phases. In the first phase, all healthcare workers will be vaccinated. In the second phase, all emergency workers and in the third phase people with co-morbidity will be vaccinated.
As of now, three companies have applied for emergency use of the vaccine. Bharat Biotech, Serum Institute of India which is producing Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, and Pfizer India have applied for emergency use of the COVID-19 vaccine.
